What We Do

We represent a group of dedicated volunteer astronomers and educators whose charter is to help stimulate the public, communities, teachers, schools and students to excel in science and  astronomy.  Our charter as the Nevada site leader of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific is to bring to our communities the resources of the Project ASTRO and Family ASTRO programs.

Space Science for Schools offers ongoing Family ASTRO classes to families in northern Nevada with children third grade through ninth grade.  These classes are designed for parents and children to work together to learn basic astronomy through interactive, hands on study.  Our accredited  teacher training courses in Project ASTRO and "Inquiry Based Science Methods" are offered through Sierra Nevada College.  Our in-service support and training extends directly to the district schools.  After school and institutional programs are scheduled throughout the year.   Please contact Dr. Paul Guttman (pguttman@ss4s.org) or Richard Smith (rsmith@ss4s.org) for more information.
Register NOW for Family ASTRO Star Explorer Camps for August 1-3 and October 10-12...July 12-14 is now closed!
