SCHOLARSHIPS

SS4S believes in unlocking potential of all our young aspiring scientists and astronomers. That is why we offer scholarships to deserving 5-12 graders and outstanding teachers who demonstrate great interest in exploring sciences. Through our generous donors and sponsors, we just may have a scholarship or reduced fee allowance for you. All applications and inquiries should be directed to .

  • Professional Development- Science Method I or II, $500
  • Family Camp Assistance- Overnight Camp Fee, $400
  • Youth Science Institute- Afterschool Program, $250
  • Astronomical Society- Any SS4S field program, $75

SS4S Youth Science Excellence Education Scholarship
Eligibility: College bound highschool senior who has participated and volunteered in at least 5 Space Science for Schools Events,or has completed the Youth Science Institute Program, minimum GPA 3.0. One page science related article or essay describing "how SS4S has influenced my understanding of science" is required. Applications accepted all year. Award announced: May.

Project ASTRO Reach - K-12 Teacher Excellence in Science Instruction
Teachers demonstrating excellence in applying inquiry based skills in the classroom are encouraged to apply for a $500 continuing education scholarship. Eligibility: Any K-12 full-time teacher in Nevada or California toward continuing education. Teachers who do not have specialization in Sciences are especially encouraged to apply. Has participated or volunteered in at least 3 Space Science for Schools Events. One page letter of request describing "how SS4S programs have changed my teaching approach" and one letter of endorsement or recommendation required for application. Applications accepted all year. Award announced: February.

2007-2008 SS4S Scholar- Jessica Dykstra An exceptional high school scholar and community steward, Jessica Dykstra is a charter member of the Highlander Astronomical Society of SS4S. She worked on many after school projects including over 100 hours of service teaching along side Dr. Guttman at the North Tahoe Boys and Girls Club doing Family ASTRO and community outreach in astronomy education at the Star Party programs at Sand Harbor. She received many additional scholarships and chose to enroll at Wake Forest University in North Carolina. We are proud of Jessica and wish her all the best!
