Youth Science Institute for Aspiring Scientists and Astronomers

Mission Goals The Youth Science Institute provides a broad range of engaging, interactive, and hands-on educational science activities that inspire an interest in earth science, space science and environmental science and prepare students for lifelong learning.

Experience Science

Youth Science Institute (YSI)
January 2010 - May 2010, Incline Village, NV

There is no better way to develop a passionate interest in sciences than to personally explore, experience and study science at iconic Lake Tahoe. Our community is fortunate to have one of the world’s premier research institutions, UC-Davis, leading students through a once in a lifetime survey of relevant sciences. With the help of world-renowned scientists, students will engage their curiosity with introductions to some of the most exciting and important scientific fields. Youth Science Institute assembles leading researchers and educators that engage students in thought provoking, hands-on activities that foster an enduring sense of conservation, preservation and stewardship for our fragile ecosystem and shared resources.
Discover. Learn. Lead.

Hands-on ScienceHands-on ScienceConservation Stewardship(YSI)
SS4S will find opportunities for Youth to give back to communities. Through this program students develop a solid understanding of the interconnection of shared natural resources—such as air, water, and national forests. In addition, it explores how fundamental space science concepts such as solar radiation and nuclear fusion can affect the fragility of life on Earth and alter the possibility of life on other planets. The YSI vision is to develop scientifically literate, active conservation stewards able to make independent, informed decisions. Most importantly, they will be prepared to assess the impact their decisions have a direct influence on their quality of life and that of their community.

"Every week I looked forward to learning something new about astronomy or the earth’s environment and how to protect it."
Max Wynne, YSI Graduate 2008
