History
SS4S was organized as an educational non-profit 501 (C) (3) corporation in June of 2003 for the expressed purpose to create community and statewide resources as a Astronomical Society of the Pacific chapter of Project ASTRO and Family ASTRO. Sierra Nevada College is the sponsoring partner institution hosting our chapter and serves as the primary certifying institution for accreditation of teachers engaged in Project ASTRO training. The organization is staffed entirely by volunteer astronomers and will eventually hire a full time astronomer-educator to run the teaching programs.
