Family Astro Events: Star Parties, Star Explorer Camp

Space Science for Schools, Family ASTRO Star Explorer Star Party Programs at Sand Harbor State Park, Incline Village, NV

Our Star Party format program is designed for parents with student children.  This is a non-sleep over evening venue that is sure to capture the minds of students of all ages.  Times are 7:30 –11:00 p.m. on Star Party dates below.  Programs are free to the public..  Call or write for more information and location of event.   pguttman@ss4s.org or 775-720-6999.  

All Star Parties are at Sand Harbor Nevada State Park, 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., east parking area adjacent to the south beach access.  Ranger at the gate will direct you.   Follow the signs!!  Bring warm clothing, insect repellant, red filtered flashlight only (no-white flashlights allowed), bring snacks and warm beverages for the cool evening programs.  

  • June 7, Saturday  (starts at 8:00 p.m., exception to our usual time of 7:30 p.m.), "Leo home of Galaxies and other Wonders!"
  • June 28, Saturday, "Spring Constellations"
  • August 2, Saturday, "the Milky Way"
  • September 5, Friday, "Harvesting the wonders of the Milky Way and beyond"
  • September 27, Saturday, "Transition to the Fall Constellations"

Family ASTRO Star Explorer Camps, a 3 day sleep over family experience at Clair Tappaan Lodge, Donner Pass Rd., Norden, Cailfornia, July 11-13 (now closed), JOIN us for the August 1-3 and October 10-12, 2008

These special events are  for families of student children over the age of 5 of grades 2-teens.   These programs  will utilize this wonderful vintage lodge and natural environment for up to 30 families of elementary and middle school age with an immersion program of Space and Environmental Sciences. Full Board and Room provided from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. This program will provide all Family ASTRO materials, meals and outings for the family. Mentoring will be provided by the students of the Youth Science Institute of UC Davis and SS4S faculty. Naturalists from Sierra Club will provide additional course materials and outings. Telescopes provided by the SS4S team. Enrollment will be limited by accommodations and will be on a first come-first served basis. Reserve now! Call 775-831-3233 or call Cindy F. July 11-13 (now closed), August 1-3, and October 10-12, 2008

    Hands-on immersion in Space and Environmental Science for the whole family!
